About the company

It all started during an early software piracy enforcement audit working with a client, a law firm in Mill Valley, California, poised to conduct one of the state's first on-site, software raids. The year: 1991.

The audit of the target company's systems took at least an hour and a half per machine—and most of the day to complete. During the process, the thought was "There has to be a better way."

Working with the SPA (now SIIA), Attest helped create the Certified Software Managers course (CSM)—making it available to over 2,500 IT professionals. It was this input, along with the contribution of attorneys' expertise in license compliance, which guided the development of GASP®

Initially, GASP was used solely in software piracy enforcement audits, but it soon became obvious there was a broader market for the tool. This was manifest when the Microsoft Corporation (the first purchaser of GASP®) used it to control software installations on its campus in Redding, California.

Attest—the leader. We incorporated in 1993 as a privately held company, headquartered in Novato, California.

In a short period of time, we have become the leading provider of IT asset discovery and management tools for small, medium, and large enterprises and government agencies worldwide.

Our flagship product, GASP®, is recognized as the most accurate software and hardware auditing tool in the industry.

As a testimony to this, the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) continue to use GASP® as an auditing tool for their anti-piracy software license compliance.
